CAPDM Membership

A CAPDM membership provides dynamic access to industry leaders, research, member-developed events, education forums and resources for the healthcare supply chain.

CAPDM facilitates effective stakeholder engagement, collaboration and strategic alliances. This leads to united advocacy on issues and creates enhanced business conditions for its members.

Admissions Standards

All drug pharmacy distributors and integrated drugstore chains must conform to the following standards:

  1. Must have been engaged as a drug pharmacy distributor or integrated drugstore chain for a minimum of two years prior to the date of application.
  2. Should keep in stock a full inventory of pharmaceutical products for sale on a daily basis.
  3. Should provide manufacturer services in the areas of prescription drugs (Rx), recall procedures, returned goods service, new product introduction program and sales reporting.
  4. Should provide sales services through competent staff maintaining regular contact with retail customers.
  5. Should provide customer services for answering and resolving customer inquiries.
  6. Should provide retail services in the form of product price information and product change information on a timely basis.
  7. Should provide efficient freight delivery service.
  8. Should provide inventory of narcotic and controlled drugs.
  9. Must conduct all business in keeping with the CAPDM Code of Business Standards.
 

CAPDM Member By-Laws, Pharmacy Distributors Member By-Laws

Any company, firm, corporation, registered partnership, or other entity actively engaged in business as a full service pharmacy distributor in Canada, whose primary business is the orderly distribution of drugs, sundries, health and beauty aids to the retail trade at large and/or to hospitals or similar institutions. The entity may be independent, retailer owned or pharmacy distributor sponsored.

  • A drug pharmacy distributor must operate a warehouse or warehouses.
  • A drug pharmacy distributor, for the purposes of Membership in this Association, may not own or operate retail stores except as incidental to its ownership of customer receivables on a temporary basis.
  • The drug pharmacy distributor shall not carry on its principal business as cash-and-carry or on a mail order basis.
  • The drug pharmacy distributor shall buy principally from the manufacturer or manufacturer's licensee.
  • Divisions of the drug pharmacy distributor are not considered to be separate entities, for the purpose of these by-laws.
  • This category is subject to Membership dues as determined by the Board of Directors.
  • Each drug pharmacy distributor Member shall have one (1) vote.


Self-Distributing Pharmacy Chain Member By-Laws and Other Logistical Providers

Any company, firm, corporation, registered partnership, or other entity, which owns, operates and/or franchises retail stores engaged in the business of selling drugs, sundries, health and beauty aids to the public. The entity must also have as a parallel, primary interest, the orderly distribution of drugs, sundries, health and beauty aids principally, but not necessarily exclusively, to its associated drug stores. In addition, the entity must own and operate at least one distribution centre through which its distribution function is carried out.

  • The integrated drug store chain shall not carry on its principal business by mail order only.
  • This category is subject to the same Membership dues as the drug pharmacy distributor as determined by the Board of Directors.
  • Each integrated drug store chain Member shall have one (1) vote.


Manufacturer (Associate) Member By-Laws

Any company, firm, corporation, registered partnership, or other entity engaged in business collateral or kindred to the drug pharmacy distributor. Without limiting the generality, the foregoing shall include:

  • A company, subsidiary, or division which manufactures and sells products through the pharmaceutical industry, including pharmaceutical products, sundries, and health and beauty aids and which separately sells or promotes to, and invoices a drug pharmacy distributor.
  • This category is subject to Membership dues as determined by the Board of Directors.
  • Each manufacturer (associate) Member shall have one (1) vote.


Service Provider (Associate) Member By-Laws

Any company, firm, corporation, registered partnership, or other entity engaged in business collateral or kindred to the drug pharmacy distributor. Without limiting the generality, the foregoing shall include:

  • An entity whose activities do not include the manufacture of products, yet supplies goods and services to the pharmaceutical industry or to drug pharmacy distributors such as a trade or consumer publication, advertising, public relations, or any other ancillary activity to the health care industry as might be delineated in these by-laws.
  • This category is subject to Membership dues as determined by the Board of Directors.
  • Each associate Member (non-member/service company) shall have one (1) vote.


Complimentary Member By-Laws

The Board of Directors may provide a complimentary membership to an association, company or individual when this is determined by the Board of Directors to be beneficial to the pharmacy distributors industry and the Association.

  • This category is not subject to Membership dues
  • Complimentary Members do not have a vote at meetings of Members. All other Membership privileges are applicable.
