Chairman’s Message

Chairman’s Message

Alain Champagne - ChairmanI am proud to serve on the board of CAPDM and to be able to help steer the activities of an association and an industry that is a vital part of healthcare in Canada, supplying pharmacies and hospitals with essential medicines.

Every day CAPDM member companies work within a highly regulated and complex business environment to ensure that Canadians receive their medications safely and securely when they need them regardless of where they live.

In 2015, Canadians generated 625,000,000 prescriptions. Few ever think about how their medicines reach pharmacies, hospitals, and clinics; and they need not worry. Behind the scenes, CAPDM’s distributor members handle greater than 95% of all pharmaceuticals with exacting precision so that patients can have the utmost confidence in the integrity of their medications.

CAPDM members continuously strive to maximize operational efficiencies through investments in innovation, new facilities and automation to provide value and deliver cost savings to Canada’s healthcare system estimated at $1 Billion each year. We have long been globally recognized as the gold-standard for pharmaceutical distribution.

CAPDM advocates not just for pharmaceutical distributors, but also for drug manufacturers, service providers and the pharmacies themselves, so we look for solutions and develop best practices that work across the entire pharmacy supply chain.

Today, market conditions threaten the exemplary service standards that Canadians have come to rely on. The industry must consider significant adjustments to compensate for changing regulatory environments and shrinking revenue lines.

We continue to deliver on our promise of ensuring safe, secure, and timely access to healthcare products to all Canadians in the face of mounting industry pressures. CAPDM is committed to working with stakeholders to find solutions that support a path forward to sustain Canada’s first-class pharmacy supply chain.

With the depth of leadership, experience and engagement that I see within our board, the CAPDM team and membership, I am confident that we will find a viable way forward. I invite you to become engaged if you are not already, or to join this most important healthcare organization so that you may become a part of the voice of an industry that more than ever needs to be heard.
