CAPDM Returned Goods/Unsaleables (RGU) Best Practices Final Document: Developed by the Returned Goods/Unsaleables Committee

The Canadian pharmacy supply chain has long been challenged in finding a common approach to the handling and management of returned goods/unsaleable product that needs to be processed through the reverse logistics channel.

This Best Practices document addresses the six most significant issues that impact distributors and self-distributing retailers. See the Industry Papers & Best Practices section for the report.

CAPDM Temperature Control Best Practices Final Document: Developed by the Temperature Control Committee

Maintaining the safety and efficacy of the supply chain for pharmaceutical and non-prescription products continues to be a focus of CAPDM.

This Best Practices document provides guidance for a consistent approach in proper and effective temperature control management throughout the pharmacy supply chain. See the Industry Papers & Best Practices section for the report.

Product Recall/Withdrawal Suggested Allowance for Distributor Cost Recovery Green Paper (Position Paper): Developed by the Customer Service Committee

Product recalls/withdrawals, while infrequent or rare for an individual manufacturer, often occur within the pharmaceutical industry (approximately 400 per year). The recalls/withdrawals referred to in this Green Paper are health or safety related recalls/withdrawals.

CAPDM's objective in developing a suggested product recall/withdrawal procedure and formula is to offer more efficient, effective methods for manufacturers and distributors to conduct recalls and communications, and to have a more realistic allowance format by which distributors may recover costs of recalls. See the Industry Papers & Best Practices section for the report.

Carriers: Lead Times, Measurements & Controls Green Paper (Position Paper): Developed by the Carriers: Lead Times, Measurements & Controls Sub-Committee

Shippers and consignees require a standard of service with predictable lead times and consistent procedures appropriate for the pharmaceutical and health care industry. The Committee has developed a list of Best Practices considered necessary to the delivery of acceptable service standards.

This Green Paper is accompanied by a checklist and scorecard. See the Industry Papers & Best Practices section for the report.

Expiry Dates Green Paper (Position Paper): Developed by the Customer Service Committee

It is very difficult to set standards for expiry dates by category for pharmaceutical products. For example, a company may manufacture one injectable in a category with 60 months expiry dating and another in the same category with 12 months expiry dating.

This Green Paper offers an issue analysis, states goals, provides suggested options and alternatives, in addition to discussion and recommendations. See the Industry Papers & Best Practices section for the report.

Unauthorized Deductions Green Paper (Position Paper): Developed by the Customer Service Committee

Unauthorized deductions are non-productive and are becoming more commonplace and more complex. They may be legitimate as long as supporting documentation can be produced.

Unauthorized deductions are ultimately subject to agreement between trading partners. This Green Paper recommends guidelines that may be used to resolve issues between trading partners. See the Industry Papers & Best Practices section for the report.

Back Order/Product Availability Notification Green Paper (Position Paper): Developed by the Customer Service Committee

Back orders create non-value-added expenses. This Green Paper identifies tools that can be used to minimize non-value-added costs. See the Industry Papers & Best Practices section for the report.

Sales Tracking White Paper (Discussion Paper): Developed by the Data & Information Committee

This White Paper recommends a set of common data elements that describe each of the components of sales transactions reported by distributors to manufacturers. See the Industry Papers & Best Practices section for the report.

Contract Price Notification Green Paper (Position Paper):

See the Industry Papers & Best Practices section for the report.

CAPDM Industry Trends Report: Trends in Managed Inbound Programs: Developed by the Transportation Sub-Committee

The supply chain has become a global focus for businesses over the past several years. The inbound supply chain, however, has not been a major part of that focus until now; it is the last significant frontier. It offers true collaboration opportunities and benefits for all parties involved. The recent trend in pharmacy distribution management is to managed inbound programs. See the Industry Papers & Best Practices section for the report.

CAPDM's Year-end Product Availability White Paper (Discussion Paper):

Developed by the Customer Service Committee to recommend more efficient and effective year-end ordering practices to ensure sufficient product stock for customers throughout year-end and early new year time periods. See the Industry Papers & Best Practices section for the report.
